In recognition of September’s National Hunger Action Month, ShopRite Partners in Caring hosted the annual “Help Bag Hunger.” Lt. Pete Sikoryak and Sgt. Nancy Wallwork assisted ShopRite of Bedford Hills and local community leaders by raising awareness around food insecurity in our communities.

Edward Ritch, our new recruit, with Chief Melvin Padilla, was sworn in July 14, 2022. Edward will be starting the Westchester Police Academy on Monday, July 18th and we are confident he will make an excellent addition to our Police Department when he graduates in December.

125th Anniversary Celebration
“Walk to School Week” kicked off once again for Bedford Hills Elementary School. Police Chief Melvin Padilla joined students on their walk to school and safely crossed them on Church St. Many of the BPD officers walked with students as well this week. Det. Sgt. Erik LeFevre and PO Amy Carelli, along with other Westchester Police Officers, took a Principled Policing Instructor Course at the Westchester County Police Academy. This class focuses on best practices on how to maintain positive relationships with our community.

Yesterday, PO Frank Egelsen met with Cub Scout Pack 170 at the Bedford Village Memorial Park. The Cub Scouts wanted to hear about a Police Officer’s role and responsibilities in our community. The Cub Scout Pack was also given the opportunity to take a tour of a Police Vehicle. The Bedford PD thanks Ed Steins, Cub Pack Leader and the Cub Scout Pack 170 for inviting us.
January, 2021, Sgt. Erik LeFevre (far right) was assigned to the position of Detective Sergeant, while Police Officers Nancy Valdovinos, Ahmad Warren, Thomas Keane, and Matthew Whalen were assigned to the Detective Division as Detectives.
Police Officers Gerard Williams and Joseph Sagliano join our department bringing experience and knowledge with them from NYPD and NYS Park Police respectively. We look forward to their service to the town of Bedford.
Dennis Mancia, our new recruit, started the Westchester Police Academy in January and we are confident he will make an excellent addition to our Police Department when he graduates in May.
This December, January and March, we said good bye to retiring Lieutenant’s Michael Callahan, Vincent Gruppuso and Drew Bellantone. We thank them for their professionalism and dedication. They will be missed!

“CRASE” (Civilian Response Active Shooter Events) TRAINING

“Stop the Bleed” Clinic
The Bedford Police Department held a “CRASE” (Civilian Response Active Shooter Events) training clinic at The Harvey School on Thursday, January 23. A group made up of about 24 students and staff participated in “Stop the Bleed” training. Participants learned tourniquet skills and techniques to stop bleeding from severe wounds. The training is part of a series of classes the BPD offers to keep community members up to date on safety procedures and emergency response protocols.

The New York State Law Enforcement Agency Council re-accredited the Bedford Police Department for another five year term. The accreditation demonstrates the commitment the men and women of the Bedford Police Department have to providing the highest level of excellence and professionalism in the field of law enforcement by continuing to meet the standards established by the Council. Only 137 law enforcement agencies out of approximately 500 in New York State hold this distinction.
